Hans Aichinger
The canvas paintings by HANS AICHINGER (*1959 in Leipzig, Germany) are filled with concentration: once the one he uses when painting the highly accurate figures and even more in the mental tension that the characters seem to feel themselves. This concentration does not reveal its object, it lies outside the picture frame, without reference, in the open. Aichinger thus creates a balance between figuration and abstraction and balances the readability of the paintings between possible and impossible.
The artist´s watercolor drawings are dreamlike. While Aichinger enforces in his painting practice the strict rigor of photographic realism, with his new series of drawings he indulges in a whimsical pallet of pastel colors. Nevertheless, these drawings retain the eerie playfulness that has come to characterize Aichinger´s entire oeuvre. The scenes he painstakingly composes seem suspended on the immaculate backdrop of their white page. Deprives of any architectural elements, they appear like visions, fantasies or memories that stimulate the imagination of the beholder. (Anaïs Castro)
